Bhutan

A Himalayan kingdom with deliberately limited tourism: a trip is planned in advance and paid for through a daily levy. Local prices are low, yet the overall cost of a visit is high precisely because of that levy, and there is no rental market for foreigners. The seasons are clear-cut: bright spring and autumn, a summer monsoon and a cold mountain winter. Long stays and work are effectively unavailable, and travel around the country follows an agreed route.
