Cape Verde is a dozen volcanic islands in the Atlantic: Sal and Boa Vista for wind and beaches, Santiago and Santo Antão for mountains. Prices run above mainland Africa because of shipping, rent in tourist zones is expensive, and local produce is moderate. It stays warm and dry all year with a short rainy spell from August to October, and the wind makes water sports the main draw. Portuguese and Creole are needed daily, healthcare is basic, and inter-island flights are expensive and weather-dependent.
