Christmas Island

Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean is known for the annual red crab migration and a national park that covers most of it. Everything is priced in Australian dollars, costs are high because of shipping, and housing and goods follow the size of the settlement. It is warm and humid all year, wetter from November to April, and the dry months are the pleasant ones. Work concentrates in phosphate mining, the public sector and tourism, healthcare is basic, and flights run from Perth on a fixed schedule.
