Vegan restaurants on Phangan

Phangan is called the most vegan-friendly island in Thailand not for the sake of it: the concentration of plant-based establishments on Hin Kong road is among the highest in the country, and these aren't cafes with one vegan item on the menu but full-service restaurants with their own kitchen. Below are six places where the vegan menu isn't a compromise but the foundation: different cuisines, different bills and different reasons to visit.

How we chose

We selected establishments on a fully plant-based foundation, not restaurants with separate vegan positions on a general menu, and verified specific specialization — Thai cuisine, raw food, desserts, specific national cuisine. We didn't consider general phrases like "healthy and delicious food" as a criterion.

What suits whom

• Taste From Heaven in Sritthanu — for most: Thai cuisine in vegan version, including khao soi, at affordable prices.
• Pure Vegan Heaven at Had Chao Phao beach — international menu: smoothie bowls, Mexican bowls, breakfast burritos.
• Street Vegan House on Hin Kong road — Vietnamese street food and one of the few completely gluten-free places on the island.
• HEXAGON in central Sritthanu — plant-based cuisine with sauna and sound practices at the establishment, if you want to combine lunch with a wellness program.
• Deli Devi in Sritthanu — for dessert: homemade vegan cheeses, raw cakes and cocoa drinks, workspace with WiFi.
• Foods & Roots at the beach in Chalok Lam — if you're on the north of the island: organic products, smoothies and a small health food store at the restaurant, closed Thursdays.

What to keep in mind

Most places on Hin Kong road and in Sritthanu accept cash, less often Thai bank QR transfer. Some establishments close one day a week — check the schedule on social media before the trip, especially if you're coming specifically for a certain place. Portions at vegan restaurants on the island are usually meant for one meal, not a group — if there are several of you, order separately for each person.
