Eritrea

Eritrea is Asmara with its Italian architecture two kilometres up, and the Red Sea coast below. Local prices are low, but the choice of goods and services for a foreigner is very narrow and everything is paid in cash. The plateau stays cool all year, the coast is hot, and the short rains fall in summer. A visa is arranged in advance, travel beyond the capital needs a separate permit, and connectivity is limited.
