Malta

A small island where English is an official language and nothing is more than half an hour away: Valletta, Sliema and Gozo set three different rhythms. Rent and groceries cost more than in southern Europe, while the tax regime and the service market are built around newcomers. The Mediterranean summer is long, dry and very hot; winter is short, windy and wet, and homes heat poorly. What you accept is dense building, construction noise, little greenery and drinking water that you buy.
