Martinique

Martinique is the French Caribbean: euros, French healthcare and schools, Mount Pelée and the beaches of the south. Prices run above mainland France because of shipping; rent is expensive in the coastal communes and cheaper inland. The dry season runs from December to April and the wet one from June to November, when hurricanes are also possible. Work concentrates in the public sector and tourism, unemployment is high, and flights to Europe are long and costly.
