Réunion is a French island of an active volcano, mountain cirques and the ocean: hiking matters more here than beaches. Summer from November to April is hot, humid and cyclone-prone, winter is dry and cool, and the highlands get genuinely cold. The labour market is narrow, unemployment is high, and Europe is eleven hours away on an expensive ticket.
