Sint Maarten
Sint Maarten is the Dutch half of an island shared with France: the regional airport hub, marinas and beaches within walking distance. Prices are high because of imports and rent is expensive, though shops and logistics beat most neighbouring islands. It stays warm and dry most of the year, and the hurricane season from June to November is felt in insurance terms too. Work is tied to tourism and aviation, healthcare is basic, and specialist care means a flight to Guadeloupe or the US.
