Vatican City

The Vatican is a one-day destination inside Rome: the basilica, the museums and the square people walk to. It has no cost of living of its own — food, lodging and transport all follow Roman prices. The weather is Roman too: hot dry summers, mild wet winters, and shorter queues outside the peak months. Living here is not an option: citizenship and residence follow from service, and everything else is a ticketed visit.
